Tanzania

HAS NOT ENDORSED THE POLITICAL DECLARATION

Tanzania has not yet endorsed the Political Declaration on the use of explosive weapons in populated areas. It did not actively participate in the negotiations towards a Political Declaration. Tanzania participated in the Vienna Conference on the Protection of Civilians in Urban Warfare in October 2019, but did not issue any individual statement on EWIPA.1

Tanzania attended the first international follow-up conference on the Political Declaration in Oslo, Norway in April 2024.

Statements and positions

At the United Nations General Assembly’s First Committee meeting in 2024, Tanzania expressed concern for the “intensity of the bombardment as well as application of sophisticated and advanced weapons in Ukraine and the Middle East” suggesting that it indicates that “current disarmament measures are inappropriate” and require “necessary adjustment”.2
